Working with Images in Joomla
Step-by-step walkthrough of insterting an image in a Joomla document:
Click the Image icon
If the image you want to use is already on the server, select it. If not, upload it from your computer:
Select the folder where you want to store the image, or leave it in the Stories (default) directory. Then click the upload button:
Click Add, then locate the file on your computer that you want to insert. You may upload multiple files at this time (click Add again to select another file). When you have selected your file(s), click Upload. When your images have finished uploading, close the window.
Select the image file from the list. Make sure the file name appears in the URL box above. Sometimes you need to click the file name twice. Set your desired options for the image. See diagram below:
URL = location of image. This will be entered automatically when you click on your image name in the list.
Alternate Text: Helpful for search engines and people with disabilites. Enter a word or phrase describing your image here.
Alignment:
This determines both where on the page your image will appear (basically Left or Right) AND whether or not text will flow around the image. By default (if you leave it at "Not Set") text will NOT flow around the image.
Select Left or Right (probably). Others are rarely used.
Margin: This sets space around the image and keeps flowed text from touching the side of the image. UN-check Equal Values.
Recommended settings for Left Aligned images: Top=0, Right=10, Bottom=0, Left=0.
For Right Justified, use same settings except: Right=0, Left=10
Feel free to set border options of you like.
When you have finished setting the image options, click Insert.
To adjust image size:
Move the cursor to the lower right corner of the image. Drag the corner inward to adjust image size.
NOTE: This will change the display size of the image, but not the file size. If it is a large file it will take a long time to load, even though it appears smaller on the screen. To see how to change the actual size of the image click here.
