Linking to specific parts of a page in Joomla

Normally when you create a link to an article it takes you to the top of the page. If you want your visitors to go to a particular part of a page automatically, rather than having to scroll down and search for what they're looking for, there is a simple solution: Anchors!

Say you have a long article with bios for the twenty plus staff of your organization. On another page you want to create a link that takes you directly to Kathy's bio, which is somewhere far down the list on your staff page. Here's how:

First:

  • On the staff page, place the cursor at the point you want to link to (in this case, probably just before Kathy's name).

  • Click the Anchor button (or bookmark button in some editors):

    or

  • Give the new anchor a name (and remember it for later) and select OK or Insert.

Next:

  • On the page where you are creating the link to Kathy's bio, follow the normal procedure for creating a link (in this case to the staff page).

  • Now edit the URL by adding a pound sign (#) followed by the name of the anchor you created.
Your URL should now look something like this: /your_regular_page_url#kathy

  • Insert the link and you're all set!
